White Anti-Racist Organizing

DEFINITION OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

There are many different ways in which individuals and organizations define the work of community organizing. To provide clarity we offer these characteristics to provide more specific criteria for defining what we mean by “community organizing.”

AWARE-LA’S WHITE ANTI-RACIST COMMUNITY ORGANIZING MODEL

Once we developed the Radical White Identity model, which developed personal stakes for white people’s investment in anti-racism, it became possible for us to consider what a white anti-racist organizing model would look like. This model has five key elements with a major emphasis on building an organized base of white people (through organizational membership) to actively participate in movements for justice and to organize other white people to be anti-racist and resist the white supremacist system.

For more information on these models, please see the papers One Step Forward on the Path to Liberation by AWARE-LA and Powerful Partnerships by AWARE-LA or contact us.
