Details: Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB) has been advocating to close prisons and jails across the state while shifting public spending from corrections and policing to health and human services for the past 18 years. In 2021, CURB produced The People’s Plan for Prison Closure, a set of detailed recommendations on how California can close ten prisons by 2025.
This spring, the state legislature will be holding critical hearings on state spending on prisons. CURB and SURJ Bay Area are teaming up to mobilize people across California to have your voices heard at these critical meetings to demand that we divest from cages and invest in communities.
Join us for this special action hour, where we will learn more about CURB's Prison Closure campaign, and collectively make calls, send emails, and take other actions in support of prison closure in California.
