SPECIAL WORKSHOP: WHITE SUPREMACY VIOLENCE AS DOMESTIC TERRORISM

Location: Zoom, register here (Registration is limited for WP4BL members and space is limited)

Details: As a continuation of their report (read it here), Nicole and Yazan of Vigilant Love will discuss white supremacy and domestic terrorism as they relate to the incidents of Jan 6. They will address the material impact of rhetoric by looking closely at what dangers lie in expanding the domestic terrorism definition to “address white supremacy.” Most importantly, they will examine what role the concepts “terrorism” and “extremism” play in normalizing mundane iterations of white supremacy as well as criminalizing legitimate resistance movements.

In this workshop, we will:

  • Unpack different analyses of the Jan 6 moment

  • Examine the rhetorical gain in understanding sensational white supremacy as unique or different from institutional white supremacy by looking at Jan 6, Jan 20, Atlanta and Boulder murders, and the structural overlaps between Donald Trump and Joe Biden

  • Discuss why any validation of “terrorism” is ultimately dangerous for those most impacted by surveillance and carceral systems

Accessibility: We can provide ASL interpreters and closed captioning upon request. To ensure availability, please make your request at least 72 hours prior to the event you wish to attend.
